GUGUG Facial Skin Scrubber | Review (1)

You all know I'm a skincare fanatic, and nothing gets me more excited than to try something new. When I came across the GUGUG Facial Skin Scrubber* and read the reviews, I couldn't help but wonder if this nifty facial tool was actually effective with it being so affordable. I've never come across anything like it, and what really got me is the different functions it has. I've been putting it to the test over the last couple of weeks and wanted to share my experience with you so far.

My package arrived super quickly so that left me very impressed. As you can see above, the device comes in a box (the curved 3D stainless steel shovel head is already integrated into the tool), along with two silicone bristles sleeves that you attach to the spatula, a USB charging cable that connects to a computer, phone or charger and a user manual. At the press of the button for three seconds, the device powers on, and then you press the same button to switch through the different functions and you hold it for a bit longer to power it off. It also comes with a dust cover for safe storage. The device had a bit of power already out of the box, and it took about one hour until it was fully charged (the indicator light will flash between each mode when charging, and once fully charged it will remain lit in all four modes). Once fully charged (will take five hours to charge if the device was fully uncharged), you can get 18 five-minute interval uses out of it.

You may be wondering what exactly the GUGUG Facial Skin Scrubber does. In essence, it basically mimics a professional facial treatment by incorporating deep cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, lifting and massage, while allowing the active ingredients in your skincare products to penetrate deeper and work more effectively, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed with glowing skin. The way it performs all these actions is through the high-frequency vibration that occurs in the spatula head, whereby the skin cleansing water and nutrient solution are atomized into water vapour, aka ultra-fine particles, for better deep cleansing and better ingredient absorption into the skin. The shovel head vibrates up to 24,000 times per second (insane right?!) and the atomized water helps lift and remove impurities deep within the pores. You can visibly see the pulverization of water drops while you use the device - it's actually very neat!

The first step involves surface cleaning, I basically wet my face and apply a gentle water-based cleanser to keep my face in a moist state, and then turn the device on and set it to "cleaning". I slip on a silicone sleeve (both the pink and the blue pad are identical/double-sided) and alternate using the wavy side on the larger, more accessible areas of my skin, and the spikier side around my nose and around my eyes and this helps create a nice lather. You can also not use a sleeve, and go in with just the stainless steel spatula, holding the device upward at a 45-degree angle. It provides a nice lather and feels very soothing on the skin while removing any debris that accumulated throughout the day. I then give my skin a good rinse and remove the pad in preparation for the next phase.

In the following deep cleaning step, I mist my face with my current favourite facial toner and choose the "Ion+" mode. I hold the device upward so that the spade of the spatula faces inward and slowly move it along my skin. I like using an upward motion so as to not drag too much on the skin. I can see the microparticles of water gently splash out of my pores and can also see any gunk being removed and collecting on the tip of the shovel head (both gross and beyond satisfying), which I wipe down with a clean wipe every few strokes. This even works to extract blackheads and sebaceous filaments while exfoliating, it's really amazing. After only one use, I noticed how much smaller and cleaner my pores appeared. My skin does get a bit red in this step since it is so sensitive, but it does not last long. I also avoid using it on any active acne so as to leave breakouts undisturbed and let them heal.

Switching to the "Ion -" function, aka the nutrition-import or product optimization mode, I either apply an essence, a lotion or a facial sheet mask and hold the device downward so that the spatula spade head faces outward at a 45-degree angle. Doing this step allows your skincare to penetrate and infuse deeper into your pores to deliver the active ingredients more quickly while hydrating thoroughly. Whether you have dry, combination, oily or sensitive skin, you will truly benefit from all that this step has to offer while elevating the products you already use in your skincare routine.

All steps will provide a bit of lifting effect, but the "lifting" mode will specifically target this through massaging, tightening and contouring the skin. You can pair this step with facial cream or an essence to keep your skin moisturized throughout the process. I again keep the spatula spade facing downward and the curve facing outward at a 45-degree angle and move the device upward, from the inside to the outside of my face. As with any tool or skincare product, consistency is key for the best results. I use the device about three times a week, and each session takes me around five minutes total (the device automatically shuts off after five minutes). In terms of maintenance, DO NOT rinse the device under water as it is not waterproof, instead use a clean cloth with soap and water or rubbing alcohol to desinfect and wipe the spatula clean.

If you are looking for professional at-home results, the GUGUG Facial Skin Scrubber performs wonderfully at a fraction of the price of other skincare tools and in-clinic or spa treatments plus you can usecodeMNFHEVSR to get 30% off the deviceon the Canadian website. Now that is a jaw-dropping price if I do say so myself. The GUGUG Facial Skin Scrubber would also make a perfect gift for the women in your life (hint hint: Mother's Day, a birthday, etc.) and comes in white or pink. It's super lightweight and travel-friendly too. Not only is it multi-tasking, but is very user-friendly and makes self-care practice all the more enjoyable.

Will you be giving this skincare device a try?
